You Never Knew How Naff Your Declarations Of Strength Were, Did You Dad?

You never knew how naff your declarations of strength were, did you Dad?

They were never where your conviction was conveyed

Only easy meat for teenage tauntings

Never supposed to take me on at that level

Even then, I never, ever doubted your intent

Taunting you only because you were strong enough to let me

Irritated like a horse would be before a feckless fly

Confident enough for the both of us

I still hear that second’s pause before you hurried up the stairs

Even when your haunches were tilted back in that older man’s stoop

That pause was never one of doubt

Always, it was a mere steeling of intent

For K … one day

I have missed a few posts, am I ready too much into this? Have you lost your Dad recently? Michele

It must be a father’s job to taunt you to be irritated enough to move yourself to greatness I love this poem

Love it! I lost my Dad over 46 years ago, I still have some very vivid memories of him.
